The Gate (1987)
Review by Jeff

Directed by: Tibor Takacs

Starring:
Stephen Dorff/Glenn
Christa Denton/Al
Louis Tripp/Terry
Kelly Rowan/Lori Lee

Plot:
Glen (Stephen Dorff) and his best fried Terry (Louis Tripp) accidentally open a gate to hell when a rotten tree is removed from the backyard of Glen's house. When his dog die and a friend of Glen's sister, Alexandra (Christa Denton), buries the animal in the hole, demons from an ancient civilization are released, seeking for two human sacrifices to dominate the world. Glen, Al and Terry, who are spending the weekend alone in the house, fight to save their lives and close the hole.

Acting:
The acting in this movie is great, Stephen Dorff(Glenn) was real good in his role, but wow this kid has such a big head funny stuff, Louis Tripp(Terry) I thought was the standout this kid cracked me up as the little metal head, and I thought gave a strong performance, Christa Denton(Al) was real good as the big sister, overall all roles seemed very realistic and believable.

Gore:
There was not really any gore here, but we do get eyes gouged out, some biting, and a Barbie doll to the eye, this is more for kinds as well as adults to enjoy so there is no extreme gore here.

T & A:
Nothing here just some naked gate creatures if you want to count that.

Directing:
Tibor did a sweet job making this fun movie to get into, and had some good camera shots as well as a good lighting, also some of his matte shots were cool.

Soundtrack:
We get some 80’s pop music, as well as some 80’s metal, and the score was pretty solid.

Final thoughts:
The Gate is one of those fun 80’s flicks you remember a lot as a kid and it still stands up for me today as something I love to pop in and enjoy. The acting is real good, and I would say it’s a very original film that anyone could really like, if you like horror films from the 80’s this is a must to see. I give it a 8/10
