Nightmare Man (2006)
Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

In the horror genre, there are some that are mostly geared as an "in-joke" or nod, to the die-hard (pun intended) horror fans. Nightmare Man is such a film. The plot is somewhat predictable, but well played out and the scripting is a bit awkward at first, but it does pick up quickly. After receiving a mysterious demonic African mask in the mail, ELLEN MORRIS begins to have terrible nightmares about it. She insists the dreams are real and becomes convinced the spirit in he mask is after her. Her doctors and husband, William believe Ellen is a paranoid schizophrenic and needs to spend some quality time at a mental facility for further examination. On the way, the car runs out of gas, and while her husband is walking to a gas station, her nightmares become reality....

Starring the incomparable Tiffany Shepis, BLythe Metz, Luciano Szafir and a brief cameo by Richard Moll (Night Court, House), this movie is far from Oscar material, but a wonderful distraction for true horror fans, and well worth the rental price. Part of the 2008 After Dark Horror Film festival, I'd highly recommend watching all eight of the films featured. Keep a watch for Tiffany Shepis (Delta Delta Die, The Hazing) and newcomer Hanna Putnam who seem to have too much fun in their roles.I have to give it a 7/10
