Brutal Massacre (2007)
Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

If you liked Spinal Tap...
If you liked Bhind the Mask: The legend of Lesley Vernon
If you have had any dealings with the film industry....
You WILL like this movie. Whoever thought of doing a horror movie mockumentary, man, you're doing it right.

It has such recognizable names as David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London) Gunnar Hansen (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Deepening) and Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, Devil's Rejects) this film wins from the first frame. It left me and the hubby chuckling all throughout, as it followed filmmaker David Pendrecki (Naughton) throughout the ups and downs of filming a low-budget slasher movie and all the little bumps and hiccups a filmmaker can encounter. And it encounters just about all of them, to the amusement of the audience. Also watch out for Brian O'Halloran (Clerks, Clerks II) playing an overworked and underpaid long-suffering P.A. Everyone performs so well, I can't single anyone out. Except maybe Gunnar, who demonstrates he doesn't need any mask or chainsaw to look disturbing! Written and directed by Stevan Mena, I'd really like to know why this film ducked under the horror radar, and why we found it at the bargain bin.

I for one, would be happy to promote this film, get it some more recognition and exposure. Or who knows, maybe I just witnessed a future cult classic, saved only for midnight Drive In showings. That would be cool too.

I give this a resounding nine out of ten, and would love to show this to all the filmmakers on my myspace friends list. Seriously, you guys gotta see this!
