Blood and Black Lace
Review by Jeff
Directed by: Mario Bava
Starring:
Cameron Mitchell/Max Marian
Eva Bartok/Contessa Cristina Como
Thomas Reiner/Inspector Silvester
Ariana Gorini/Nicole
Plot:
Isabella, a young model is murdered by a mysterious masked figure at a boarding house run by Max Marian and his lover Countess Cristiana Como. When Isabella's boyfriend is suspected of the killing, her diary, which apparently has some incriminating evidence linking her to the killer, disappears, the masked killer begins killing off all the models in and around the house to find the diary.
Acting:
I would say the acting isn’t the strong point of this film, we really don’t get a lot of time to know the characters in the film so I can’t really say a lot about them.
Gore:
There is not a lot of gore in this film, just some after shots of what happened to the victims, I was pretty disappointed with this.
T & A:
There is nothing here, yawn.
Directing:
Bava did some nice work the lighting of the film and the use of color this was the strong point of the film, I can tell were Argento probably got some of his influences with this film.
Soundtrack:
We get a jazzy like soundtrack, I thought it was pretty cool and fit the film well.
Final thoughts:
This is my fist Bava film and I had heard a lot of good stuff about it, and I also enjoy older horror films a lot, having that said I was disappointed with this film, I thought it was real slow and you didn’t care what happened to characters in the movie, there was barely any blood and blood is the fucking title of the movie, but the strong points are how awesome the movie looks, but that’s not enough to make me enjoy it. I give it a 6/10.
